My Big Chop on 4C Natural Hair + Answering Related Questions

Ever since I posted the picture below on Instagram, my comment section and Dms have been filled with a thousand and one questions! I anticipated some of the questions while others like “Were you heartbroken?” and “Did you have lice?” had me in stitches.

I’ve tried to answer most of the questions about my big chop in this post but you can send me a mail hello@nappyhaired.com if you have further questions.

Let’s get to it!

My Top 5 Hairstyles of 2016

While going through my pictures and editing my last post for 2016 (which I’ll put out on the 31st, cliche?), I noticed I had worn over 10 protective styles this year alone and decided to showcase my favorites this year, you can also tell me yours in the comment section, I’ll really like to know. In no particular order, they are;

DIY: Vixen Crochet

I’ve wanted to try vixen crochet braids for as long as I can remember, I finally got around to making up my mind to get it done and when I asked around, the average price to have it done at a salon is 9000 Naira. Currently, I don’t have that type of money lying around so I decided to crawl out of my lazy shell and do it myself; best decision I’ve made in a while. It is really easy to do and easier if you have a friend that can assist with the braid pattern.

Naturally Shy!

No Shame

Hello Naturals!
Do you dread rocking your natural
hair outside the four walls of your
room? Is your hair always beneath
one protective styles or the other,
turbans and scarves? Are you
afraid of what people’s reaction
would be? What if your friends or
that really cool guy you just started
speaking to recoils when they see
your new short natural hair? Are
you scared you wont look as
beautiful as you used to with your
sleek laid-back hair?
If you answered yes to any of the
questions above, dear sister, you
are Naturally Shy! I used to be that
way too, I had so much questions
and insecurities about my natural
hair, I think I still do have those
insecurities sometimes but I
allowed my love for my hair and
new texture guide me. At first, I
always hid my hair under wraps,
beanies and wigs, then I started
exploring Youtube for fancy and
modern styles to try out on my
hair, It wasnt easy because I
cannot call myself a creative
person(I’m a total klutz
sometimes), So I had my friend(a
natural too) watch the videos and
do them on my head instead. But
it’s okay to hide under wraps until
you feel you’ve reached the stage
where you can confidently try out
various styles. Having natural hair
is neither a disease nor a plague,
yes, people would have their
opinions and reactions and about
it, but it’s up to you to handle that
reaction and eventually inspire a
few of them to transition or do the
big chop !
Be Patient, Be Consistent, Be
Beautiful.

Cheers.
