Weekend Getaway in Lagos: Lighthouse Beach House

I started following the development of Lighthouse Beach House in its late stages sometime last year via the founder’s instastory. It was easy to tell that they were onto something different from the usual beach house getaway locations in Lagos. Sometime in 2019, I expressed my disappointment at the state of Croc Smile beach house so it came as no surprise that Lighthouse bought it over and carried out some major renovation work on it.

Lighthouse Beach House is located on Tarkwa Bay. The location is perfect because Tarkwa Bay is easy to access via boats/ferries and it’s home to some of my favorite beach houses like POP and Jaybee. A round trip via the banana boats will cost you around 20,000 Naira for the entire boat . Hiring a private boat will cost around 100,000 Naira for a round trip. Be sure to inform your captain you’ll like to dock at the port close to Lighthouse beach house as it’ll save you the long walk from the main port and entry fees.

There was an error when I tried making a reservation via the website so I sent a DM on Instagram instead. The booking process went smoothly afterwards. At the time of writing this, a night in the standard room costs 95,000 Naira and 115,000 Naira for the deluxe room. I chose the deluxe room because it is bigger and I was going to be sharing the room with a friend.

We were welcomed with refreshing drinks and shown to our rooms almost immediately. The service is really commendable and second to none I have received in Lagos Every staff did their best to make sure we had an extremely pleasant stay. Shout out to the bartender, Kelechi, for keeping the drinks coming even during my painting session at midnight. The room rate includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and snacks. Be sure to try the Lighthouse cocktail, it’s the best of their six alcoholic cocktails.

There isn’t a lot to do because I imagine the aim of visiting should be relaxation. You can spend evenings at the beach trying to catch the sunsets, take a long hike with a guide to see the lighthouse, explore the ruins of the shipwreck or ride on a quad bike a to explore the island. Most importantly, relax poolside with a cocktail or two. I really enjoyed my short stay at Lighthouse and can confidently say it’s one of the top three beach houses/resorts in Lagos right now. I can’t wait to go back for my birthday in April.

You can reach Lighthouse beach house via their website or Instagram.
